The new series of Doctor Who is almost here and today, Matt Smith gives us a few hints about what we can expect! Tomorrow, we've got an exclusive video with Karen Gillan telling us the truth about Amy but before that we've outlined some details about the Doctor's imminent adventures, including titles plus cast/crew news for the next seven episodes.
The series stars Matt Smith (the Doctor), Karen Gillan (Amy) and Arthur Darvill (Rory) with Alex Kingston as River Song.
- Episode 1: The Impossible Astronaut by Steven Moffat
- Episode 2: Day of the Moon by Steven Moffat
The series' opening adventure is a two-parter written by Steven Moffat and directed by Toby Haynes. Partly shot in Utah, USA, it co-stars Stuart Milligan as Richard Nixon and Mark Sheppard who plays Canton Everett Delaware III. You can read a short synopsis of the adventure.
Episode 3: The Curse of the Black Spot
The third episode is directed by Jeremy Webb and written by Stephen Thompson whose previous credits include The Blind Banker, the second adventure in last year's Sherlock. The Curse of the Black Spot is a pirate yarn which features Lily Cole as a mysterious green creature who haunts a ship. Hugh Bonneville is also onboard as a pirate captain and the episode features some stunning location work shot in Cornwall.
Episode 4: The Doctor's Wife
The fourth episode is by legendary writer Neil Gaiman, famous for his Sandman series of graphic novels, his books - including Stardust, recently made into a Hollywood blockbuster - and television work such as the BBC's Neverwhere. This episode co-stars Suranne Jones who featured in The Sarah Jane Adventuresas the Mona Lisa. The Doctor's Wife is directed by Richard Clark who was also at the helm for The Lazarus Experiment and Gridlock.

- Episode 6: The Almost People
The second two-parter of the series is written by Matthew Graham whose previous credits include Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes. However, he's best known to Doctor Who's audience as the writer of the Tenth Doctor episode, Fear Her. This new adventure features Sarah Smart and Marshall Lancaster and was directed by Julian Simpson.
Episode 7: A Good Man Goes To War
The finale! Steven Moffat has penned an incredible climax to the opening seven episodes. Details are currently scarce for this episode, but it's directed by Peter Hoar whose previous work includes Spooks, Mistresses and Wire in the Blood.
Steven Moffat is the series' Lead Writer. He's also Executive Producer alongside Piers Wenger and Beth Willis. Marcus Wilson produced all seven episodes aside from The Doctor's Wife which was produced by Sanne Wohlenburg. The Impossible Astronaut will be on BBC ONE at Easter, 2011.
